Intermediate [Years 7 - 11]
The five years which make up this part of CIS cover the vital period in every student's academic and social development leading up to their IGCSE examinations. Consequently, from the start of Year 7, students are actively encouraged to begin to work more independently and resourcefully so that they are able to acquire these essential life-skills. Teachers are mindful that this process requires guidance and thus take an active role in supporting student development.
- Students go to specialist teachers for each academic subject, rather than spending much of the day with their class teacher. In Years 7/8/9, a broad and balanced curriculum is taught, based on the UK's National Curriculum Key Stage 3.
- In Years 10 and 11, students do a two-year course leading to IGCSE examinations which are taken at the end of Year 11. All students must continue with English and Mathematics.
- In addition, seven subjects are chosen, from a wide selection available, which includes arts, commerce, humanities, modern languages and the sciences.
- Towards the end of Year 11, all students receive a comprehensive induction in to the 6th Form, as well as taking part in a programme of work experience outside the School, which starts them thinking seriously about future career paths and possible degree courses.
