Inter-house Cricket Tournament 2024
2024-02-28

The Inter-House Cricket Tournament held on Friday the 26th of January was a rollicking success with more than 50 students taking part and a total of 5 (10-over) matches played.

Our cricketers crossed the boundary line at 9 am on a sunny morning in the hope of snapping up the much coveted inter-house trophy.

The tournament began with Red House taking on Blue. Our experienced batsmen, Chakshu Premaratne and Shiven Laksumanage opened with a bang, putting up a stand of over 120 runs which was instrumental in beating Red by 80 runs. Next, in the Green versus Yellow battle, Yellow emerged on top, winning quite convincingly with the help of Bhanura Karunanayake, Aaron Wickramasinghe and Nikhil Pieris, their star players. Unfortunately for the players of Yellow House, they had another match against Red House after only a few minutes of rest. Despite having two back-to-back matches in the heat, they once again tasted victory. Green House then faced Blue, setting a modest target of 50 runs. However, the highly skilled and accomplished bowling of Green House proved a challenge for Blue. Eventually their experienced batters absorbed the pressure to seal the win. In the final, Yellow took on Blue. Two early breakthroughs by Chakshu Premaratne, forced Blue House on the back foot. Rising to the occasion, a blistering 80 runs from Shiven Laksumanage helped to steady the ship and secure Yellow house the respectable total of 116 to chase. In the chase, the Yellow House batters crumbled under pressure, scoring only 77.

Blue House emerged champions which now makes it three wins in a row for them.

Congratulations are in order for not only those who won but also to all those who participated in the spirit of the game.
